The Serengeti wildebeest migration is the herds only ever venture there as an extension of their grazing lands in the northern point of Tanzania if they need to for fresh pastures. You can only find the migration in Kenya within a few months of the year when they head towards the border, and even then, most of the herds are still mulling around the northern parts of the Serengeti anyway.

The word Serengeti comes from masai word “siringet” which means an endless plain. Over 200 years ago, Masai people named it siringeti due to herding activities performed there. In 1892 European explorer Austrian Oscar Boumann visited the place and approximated the word Siringet by calling it SERENGETI, so from there the place become more famous by known as Serengeti

Serengeti national park is located northwestern of Tanznaia with 14750 km2 of grassland plains, savanna, riverine forest, and woodlands, where its part is adjacent to Kenyan border.

The Serengeti National park has devided into four regions which are

Central Serengeti (seronera)

This region of Serengeti is found at the center of Serengeti, where most of the wildlife are found here such as beautiful landscape of acacia and large number of big cats (lion, Leopards and cheater)  whereby all can be spotted in one day, and also Senonera river which cuts across central south of the seronera is among of the popular area by which many leopards are found there.

In april and November this place its on the peak where the serengeti wildebeest migration to this region.

Southern serengeti (Serengeti plains)

This region is located southern serengeti where it is mostly coverd with grasses (grass land) no trees found in this region. From December to may, impala, buffalo, waterbuck, topi, zebra. Thompson gazelle are mostly found here, and wildebeest which use this region of serengeti  for breeding

Western corridor

The Western Corridor is characterized by different habitats: grassy plains, forests of Acacias, hills, marshes, and gallery forests by the shores of the Grumeti river. The river is so wide, dangerous and has great viewing points. Between may to august is the great time to visit this region of the serengeti since herds of the Great Migration are crossings the Grumeti river. Apart from wildebeest migration in this region you will meet local Maasai people and experience their way of life

Northern Serengeti:

The Northern Serengeti is dominated by open woodlands and hills, ranging between the Central Serengeti and Kenya’s Masai Mara, Kenyan border. Apart from the wildebeest and zebra migration, this is the best place to find great elephant concentration, giraffe, dik dik. Large numbers of lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and diverse resident animals such as giraffe, topi, eland and hippo
