Lake Manyara is a protected area in Tanzania located in Manyara near Arusha region. It was established in 1960 ny the Tanzania National Parks Authority and covers an area of 325 km2. The word :Manyara” comes from the Mbungwe tribe word “Manyero” with the meaning the place where animals drink water so the presence of lake in the area make the park to be known as Lake Manyara.

Lake Manyara also is located beneath the cliffs of the Manyara escapement on the aid of rift valley. It is offers varied ecosystem, wonderful birds life and breth taking views. It is ground water forests, bush plain, baobab strewn cliffs and algae streaked as well as pink flamingos. Also in lake Manyara there is a big number of elephants, giraffe, zebras, wildebeest, impala, waterbuck and warthog, small known shy kicks dik dik as well as klipspringer along the ramps of the escarpment.

Lake Manyara is famous for its tree climbing lions which attract the visitors  also different kind of species such as mahogany and elegant acacias is their home during rainy season. Also Lake Manyara is home of to the larger troops of baboons.

The time to visit lake Manyara is throughout the year but the best time is during the dry season from June to October where the animals are more easly to be sported.
